The Princess of Wales's Annual Christmas Musical Celebration Honours Community Volunteers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The large audience will hear a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The theme of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the former royal to increase availability of instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
